So, by 8AM the kids were outside. We took a ride to look at some bikes that were posted on CraigsList. While there, I phoned Doohickie of http://beginningcyclecommute.blogspot.com/ to get some advise. Ultimately, I walked away without the bike. I just don't know enough about older bikes to be sure I was going to make out okay. Thanks for the time and advise, Doohickie. I'm going to keep looking.
Then it was back home to play outside for the day.
Kenz played everywhere.
Jack continues to be just like his Grandfathers, working in the yard on a beautiful day! 
Kelsey and Emma walked over from Emma's house to visit us! Then Grandma joined us for a few minutes.
Kevin grilled up some shrimp for our dinner!
Dexter was there, to be sure that everyone was safe and having fun.
Of course, Jack called Shayna, because she was with us in spirit, as always!

I suggest you read this forum and this forum to bone up on values of older bikes.
There's a wealth of information there; everything I know I learned there.
Doohickie-I've been second guessing my decision all day.
The gearing was not smooth. In the larger chain ring it clicked a lot.I just don't know if that's an easy fix or not.
Plus, Do you remember the brand. My brain is dead and I can't remember it!

If you're expecting an older bike, especially one that perhaps hasn't been tuned up recently, to be whisper smooth, you won't find something in your price range.
Chances are the noise was due to misadjustment of the derailleurs. The rusty cog thing really wasn't a big deal, that's just some cleaning up.
What about going through the Troy bike co-op?

I went to the bike co-op a few weeks ago. They didn't have anything in my size at that time.
Loved the pictures and you actually had nicer weather than we did. We got the tail end of that horrible storm that was out West. Amarillo got a foot of snow. I'm just glad it wasn't us.
